The Chainsmokers are an American DJ duo consisting of Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall. There was a time when they were known, quite derisively, as those guys who did that “#Selfie” song.
While the track exploded in 2014, hitting the Top 20 in the Billboard singles charts, it threatened to box the duo as mediocre one-hit wonders.
Thankfully, that didn’t happen. Two years have passed on and The Chainsmokers have become the hottest young American EDM DJ duo. “Roses” was a worldwide hit in 2015, “Don’t Let Me Down” reached number 3 on Billboard but the track that created magic was the recent one “Closer”.
“Closer,” which features pop singer Halsey, is the first No. 1 hit for both The Chainsmokers and Halsey, and it comes as something of a surprise, considering that they song was only at No. 6 last week. Andrew Taggart also provides his vocals in the song, thus marking the first time one of the Chainsmokers has sung in one of their songs.
The electronic beat is bouncy and dynamic, much like The Chainsmokers’ past production. The song is written in the key of F minor with a common time tempo of 95 beats per minute. Also the lyric video could easily be the official music video, playing out a relationship on the screen as the lyrics overlay the snippets of their time together.
The rise of “Closer” automatically makes it the twosome’s best-charting song, and the same can be said for Halsey. The track marks the third top ten hit for The Chainsmokers this year.
