There is absolutely no doubt in the fact that India has become an explosive new market for electronic dance music, with more and more foreign artists touring the Indian shores recently.
Hence, Grammy winning artist Diplo’s decision to bring his magnificent concept which is the Mad Decent Block Party to the country is not a surprise. If anything, it just goes to show how much of a priority India is to artists all over the globe.
Set to kick off its Asian travail on Friday in Mumbai, we decided to give you a slight background check of this sublime and wildly popular concept and what you could expect to go down at the event!
Mad Decent is an American record label founded by Grammy and AMA winning producer Diplo in 2005, and has been responsible for kick-starting the careers of many up and coming electronic producers including Dillon Francis, Baauer (of Harlem Shake fame) , DJ Snake, Zeds Dead and TroyBoi to name a few.
Mad Decent has been a pioneer in introducing diversified and outlandish regional sounds from Brazil, Angola and famously Jamaica amongst many other countries into clubs and dance floors across the world. The label sees itself as an “outlet to curate and promote new music that errs on the side of experimental”, whilst also bringing the best of global and pop music to new audiences across the world.
However, like all things which start small and go on to achieve magnanimous feats, the first ever Mad Decent Block party was held in 2008 with simply a rented tent, dunk tank and BBQ on a Philadelphia street.
Initially, this concept was only restricted to North America but as time passed, this concept enamated into somewhat of a became a global phenomenon and the demand to have a Mad Decent Block Party in every major city across the globe soared to inexplicable heights.
The Indian edition of Mad Decent Block Party will feature Major Lazer (known for their 2015 hit single, Lean On) as the headline act, British house-music duo Gorgon City, Big Gigantic whose sets are tinged with live electronica, hip–hop and jazz as well as American producer Giraffage amongst a plethora of local talent including the champion of Indian drum ‘n’ bass and dubstep, Nucleya, who will be bringing his eclectic style and big tunes to the table.
A Major Lazer show is a party central, whether at a concert or a festival. Expect confetti guns that shoot colourful confetti into the crowd, inflatable animals that bounce around, constant blowing of vuvuzelas and dancers twerking and shimmying their way across the stage to the sounds of moombahton, reggae, trap hip-hop and even pop. Diplo zorbing across the crowd is an unmissable sight at any Major Lazer show.
Has the literary description of the forecasted events got you excited? Well, just imagine what the actual visual proceedings will do to you!
Do not forget Gorgon City is performing at the After Parties in All 3 Cities:
