Gig Review: Sunburn on the Road to Goa 2015

Sunburn kicked off it’s road to Sunburn Goa 2015 with a series of individual city festival’s and we were at Sunburn Mumbai to soak ourselves into the festival experience. From hit tracks and apt security arrangements, this edition of Sunburn Mumbai was clearly a notch above it’s previous editions.

The most important and significant portion of this article is obviously to review the kind of music which was dished out by the DJ’s who took to the decks on an eventful night at the Mahalaxmi Turf Club. And to our relief and delight, the quality of music we heard on the night was absolutely colossal.

The three headliners made sure that they didn’t leave any stone unturned in their effort to enthrall the audiences. From mainstream big room to deep house and hardstyle, DJ Snake, Chuckie, R3hab, Matisse and Sadko and Shaan made it a point to make it a night where lovers of all genres of electronic dance music would get what they yearned for.

DJ Snake sent the crowd into overdrive by playing Lean On and also made sure that he successfully executed his first ‘Get Low’ in India and boy it came off amazingly. Just as the beat dropped, Mumbai reciprocated their love for the track with a scintillating eruption.

R3hab began his set with ‘Flashlight’ and set the level of excitement at an all time high. He then went on to drop a mashup of Hardwell’s remix of Ping Pong and This Is How We Party which sent the crowd into an absolute frenzy. He also premiered his new collaboration with KSHMR, Strong, and looking at the way the Mumbai crowd reacted to it, we can safely say that it is huge.

This picture pretty much sums up why India loves and need R3hab!

DJ Chuckie was at his best spinning some legendary old school tracks like ‘I’m in Miami Bitch’ and it’s safe to say that his set was adrenaline pumping because of his own enthusiasm and the crowd’s love for his music.

Chuckie was at his animated best and pleased the crowd with some fantastic antics.

The stage set up, lighting and the pyrotechnics were jaw-dropping and it is safe to say that the Sunburn crew invested a lot of time and money in an effort to nail this portion.

Apart from the music, a number of basic amenities which aren’t given that much of significance at a dance music festival otherwise were pretty eye catching during this event. For example, the security and smooth entry and exit into the venue.

A very pivotal part of this season’s Sunburn Mumbai edition was the alertness and the amount of security guards deplored by the Sunburn crew. The strictness with which they dealt with even the pettiest of issues was really appreciable. People weren’t allowed to smoke except for a secluded corner at the venue.

A reason for this was that people harmlessly enjoying themselves were very often subjected to cigarette burns by other people. So to avoid such a situation, this move by Sunburn is worth appreciation.

Smooth entry and exit into the venues was another concern which was championed by Sunburn in this years event. We reached the venue at 5 PM and within 15 minutes, we were in the mix of things, enjoying our drink and some quality music inside. Even as the event came to a close, people didn’t have a hard time getting their way out.

All in all, the entire festival experience was fantastic and this is an excellent start to what promises to be an epic journey of dance music which will finally culminate in the sands of Vagator Beach in Goa. Also don’t forget to check out the Sunburn Goa 2015 Phase 2 Headliners.
