The next generation of modern Guitar is finally here and is being termed as the ACPAD. It is being recognized as world’s first MIDI controller for acoustic guitars.
The ACPAD is basically a device that fits onto your guitar and consists of various touch pads which can be manually programmed as per the user’s needs. The interface is compatible with popular Digital Audio Workstations like Ableton Live 9. Kudos to the students at IIT Bombay Deepak Malani and Amaldev Venugopal along with popular guitarist Robin Sukroso for developing this device.
Berlin musician Robin Sukroso needed a piece of equipment that would allow him to bring his love of electronic and acoustic music together and this is how this product was born.
We had a chance to interact with the makers of this product & this is what they had to say:
EDMofy Team: What was the major challenge during the development phase of this product?
Robin Sukroso: The main challenge of ACPAD for acoustic guitar was to provide a very natural resonating sound from the wood of the guitar and hence we had to make sure that the ACPAD is as thin as possible.
Another challenge was especially for percussive finger style guitarists it’s a must that the triggers are working in lowest latency and accurate, almost like normal use of a “golpe” which comes from flamenco technique.
EDMofy Team: What do you feel about its possible Advantages/ Disadvantages?
Robin Sukroso: First advantage is clearly that you can live record material from the percussive sound. Second, you can have very specific separated sounds which can be mixed separately and amplified.
Only disadvantage is that obviously only some areas of the guitar are covered with ACPAD. Still we have found the best way to provide the most important areas for percussive guitar players.
The key highlights of this product are:
- It supports both wireless MIDI and USB MIDI connections
- Manually programmable using Ableton Live 9 as a DAW
- Velocity Sensitive
- No noticeable latency
- Fully customizable
So here it is guys, the next generation of modern guitar soon to be launched on Kickstarter. For more updates, Stay tuned with EDMofy
