Say hello to the latest track ‘Morjim‘ by the U.K based artist of Goan origin, Joshi. It’s no wonder that artists are starting to recognize the value of their roots and foundations. This is yet another addition to the reservoir of EDM tracks named after famous Goan spots and that too by artists having pretty affiliated connections to the music scene in Goa. (‘AnjunaBeach by Above and Beyond’)
Rishabh Joshi, who’s originally from Vasco, Goa and now based in the U.K, is an emerging artist and producer who’s the only Indian artist to have had tracks featured on Above & Beyond Group Therapy (ABGT), FSOE (Aly and Fila), Ferry Corsten’s show amongst other trance and deep house podcasts just to name a few. He’s not one of your typical producers; in addition to this, he also has a degree from the prestigious London School Of Economics!
We managed to contact him exclusively and shoot across a few questions recently!
EDMofy Team: When did the thought of naming your tracks after ‘Morjim’ and ‘Marine Drive’ occur to you? Did you have it planned all along?
Joshi: I have always had a strong desire to imbibe in my tracks a sort of Indian vibe. Both Morjim and Marine Drive contain vocal samples that I have used by sampling Indian classical vocalists, and hence I chose to name them after different places in India. Both Marine Drive and Morjim have been places of tremendous creative inspiration for me, and hence I chose these names!
EDMofy Team: Congrats for the first track by an Indian artist to be featured on Above and Beyond’s Group Therapy Radio and Aly and Fila’s FSOE! What was your immediate reaction?
Joshi: Thank You very much! Indeed, both these radio plays came as huge surprises to me. All my producing life, I have always wanted to make music good enough to be playlisted on Group Therapy & Future Sound Of Egypt, and to see this becoming a reality was truly a special moment. I would definitely classify them as some of the best moments in my short producing career 🙂
EDMofy Team: Got any more Goan places in mind? 🙂
Joshi: Haha, I don’t normally plan names before writing songs, but I can definitely see a couple of more ‘Goa’ inspired names finding their way into my music catalog in the future 🙂
‘Morjim’ is his second release under the brand-label ‘Colorize’ following his highly successful ‘Paramount / Quicksilver’ EP. This track having a progressive-deep house vibe about it, beautifully amalgamates the bright, siesta-esque vibe of Morjim with the deep powerful chords.
The track has been released on August 11,2014. Buy it here
