Martin Garrix, a one hit wonder?

Martin Garrix

While there have been innumerable allegations of copycat-ism and diverse opinions on Martin Garrix’s hit “Animals”, one has to question the artist’s future now.

Needless to say, the whole story started when Spinnin’ records released the teaser of the song last summer, keeping the artist anonymous. The catchy number soon went viral, and the producer of the song became a mystery. Soon after Martin Garrix’s name was revealed and the song was released, various EDM Bloggers pointed it’s similarities to other numbers such as Knife Party’s “LRAD” and Carnage & Borgore’s “Incredible.”

This however, did not have an effect on the sales, and the song went on to become the game changing EDM track of the summer, climbing up to #1 on various charts! Spinnin’ Records was soon to make use of this young success package, and Garrix followed up on collaborations with other well-known artists from the label- Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Afrojack, Firebeatz, to name a few.

Albeit he was teamed up with the big guns, none of the tracks could do any good on or off the charts. While “Animals” was certified Platinum throughout Europe, USA and Australia, not even one of his track has reached the Silver mark ever since. He continues to release singles and remixes, the last of which is “Backlash” (with Dubvision).

“Animals” is still selling well on Beatport, better than any other track by Garrix, despite being a year old now.

The big question arises,

Is Martin Garrix, the 17 year old producer, going to become one of the many One Hit Wonders that have come and gone away into the dark light? Or will we see a comeback from the young lad, backed by the booming Spinnin’ Records?

He better make one, because “Animals” is surely not going to last any longer in the EDM jungle.

Anyway, listen to Knife Party’s “LRAD” and Garrix’s “Animals” and see if you can find out the similarities which many others have sought.
