India caught in the mau5trap: deadmau5 India Tour Review

This March witnessed EDM fans go ballistic at the Sunburn arena when deadmau5 (a.k.a. Joel Zimmerman) descended in India for the first time to a warm, much anticipated welcome. The tour started on March 14 with Mumbai, the city that never sleeps and went ahead to Bangalore and NCR (which included a Coffee Run with deadmau5 zipping through Buddh International Circuit in a Lamborghini with Daler Mehndi) The main opening act was R3hab warming up the crowd with his killer set, making the fans go crazy by dropping his new track, “Revolution“. Though he was a supporting act, he managed to capture a lot of attention even as he took his customary gig selfies.

It was finally time for deadmau5 to step up on the stage after a short break between the two acts. The crowd went thunderous as he came up on the stage wearing a typical Indian “sherwani” and his black mau5head which lit up as soon as the beat dropped.

Although his all-time famous ‘Cube’ stage set up was missing, his AV team put up a spectacular visual show, one of the best that India has seen so far. He did a great dual with the lights and his music. Have a look at the visuals:

After a while he took off the mau5head and wore a Turban which had mau5 ears on it and with this he dropped his remix of Daler Mehendi‘s ‘Tunak Tunak Tun’ aka ‘Bolo Ta Ra Ra Ra’.

Along with this desi mix he played many of his famous tunes like ‘Ghosts & Stuff’, ‘The Veldt’ ‘My Pet Coelcanth’ ‘Some Chords’ . It is rightly said that deadmau5 is NOT a DJ. He is a carpenter of sounds, a performer, constructing and puppeteering music to the extreme. Qualities can be taken from dance icons such as Armin Van Buuren and fused with more modernistic performers such as MSTRKRFT, but deadmau5 cannot be generically placed. His seamless mixes (using mainly self constructed hardware/software), romantic melodies and ethereal, pulsating beats conjure up an unforgettable experience.

deadmau5 ended his set with strobe and quoted AxwellWhen I want money, I play in Vegas. When I wanna party, I play in Miami and when I want (f!@#ing) love I play in (f!@#ing) India “. He was so satisfied by the response he got from his Indian fans that he plans on doing a solo production in India in the near future.

In Bangalore the fans went ballistic when he played Raise Your Weapon last.

Another video crazy video shot when deadmau5 dropped Avaritia :
